Spaghetti Al Café

2 lbs. lean ground beef
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 can tomato sauce
12 oz. chopped mushrooms
4 medium onions, chopped
1 can whole peeled tomatoes, chopped
3/4 cup brewed strong coffee like Connoisseur's Gold Blend
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 package spaghetti
pinch of sugar (optional)
salt, pepper, basil, and oregano to taste
  • Heat large pot to medium high. Put the oil in the pot, then add onions & garlic. Brown until golden.
  • Add the ground beef to the pot and brown.
  • Add the chopped peeled tomatoes, mushrooms, tomato sauce, and coffee.
  • Simmer for 30 minutes, adding water if necessary.
  • Add seasonings to taste and simmer another 5 minutes.
  • Separately, cook the spaghetti in a pot of boiling water with a little olive oil in it.
  • Drain spaghetti well, then serve onto plates with sauce poured over it.
